Veteran Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin responded wittily to former England captain Michael Vaughan after India’s triumph over England in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 semifinal. Ashwin humorously replied to Vaughan’s comments following India’s convincing 68-run victory over England at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on June 27. The Indian team outperformed Jos Buttler’s side comprehensively across all aspects of the game, marking their return to the T20 World Cup final after a ten-year absence.
Following England’s collapse in their recent match, Michael Vaughan commented that India unquestionably deserved their place in the final. Vaughan highlighted India’s suitability to the T20 World Cup 2024 conditions, affirming them as the standout team in the tournament so far.
“India thoroughly deserve to be in the final .. The best team in tournament so far .. Was always going to hard for England on this pitch .. India just so much better on lower slower spinning pitches,” Vaughan tweeted on X (formerly known as Twitter).
Hence, India Won – Ravichandran Ashwin
Axar Patel was awarded the Player of the Match for his outstanding bowling performance in the crucial knockout match. The Indian team, batting first after being put into bat, set a competitive total of 171 runs in their allotted 20 overs. Despite early dismissals of Virat Kohli (9) and Rishabh Pant (4) within the powerplay, Rohit Sharma displayed aggression, anchoring the innings with a fluent 57 off 39 balls, adorned with nine boundaries and two sixes. He forged a crucial 73-run partnership with Suryakumar Yadav.
Suryakumar contributed 47 runs, narrowly missing out on his half-century. Contributions from Hardik Pandya (23 off 13), Ravindra Jadeja (17 off 9), and Axar Patel (10 off 6) further bolstered India’s total on a challenging pitch in Guyana.
In reply, England struggled against the trio of Axar Patel (3/23), Kuldeep Yadav (3/19), and Jasprit Bumrah (2/12), who dismantled their batting lineup. Harry Brook top-scored for England with 25 runs off 19 balls, but their innings faltered as they managed only 103 runs in pursuit of India’s target of 172.
