Australia captain Mitchell Marsh offered an update on Mitchell Starc’s injury after the seasoned pacer left the field without completing his over against Oman in the ongoing T20 World Cup.
Australia captain Mitchell Marsh shared an injury update regarding Mitchell Starc, who left the field without finishing his over during the ongoing T20 World Cup match against Oman.
During the 15th over, Cameron Green replaced Mitchell Starc after the left-arm pacer delivered only one ball in his fourth over. Starc’s discomfort became apparent immediately after he bowled a wide, indicating he was in pain.
The physios attended to him on the field, providing treatment, and eventually, Starc had to leave the field. Glenn Maxwell took over the bowling duties for the 15th over.
Following the match, Marsh offered an update on Starc during the post-match presentation, “Starcy was just a cramp so didn’t want to take a chance. When Starcy says I am okay to go off you let him go off.”
Even in Starc’s absence, Australia secured a comfortable 39-run victory. However, statistics can sometimes be deceptive. Oman showcased glimpses of brilliance throughout the game and even had Australia under pressure at certain junctures.
Australia faced difficulties in scoring runs after being put into bat. In the ninth over, Mehran Khan was on the brink of a hat-trick after dismissing Mitchell Marsh and Glenn Maxwell on consecutive deliveries. However, Marcus Stoinis and David Warner rescued Australia from their slump with their impressive 102-run partnership. Despite the threat posed by Oman’s batters, the bowlers maintained their composure and managed the situation effectively.
“Close game. Good to get the win. It’s not going to be the 200 types in this tournament. We are kind of going to the old T20 style here in this tournament,” Marsh said.
” Took his time and showed his experience. We are looking forward to playing England. Different conditions here. Oman v Australia was a tight one, great for the game of cricket. There is sun here and we will enjoy that. It’s going to be a great game,” he added.
Following their 39-run victory in the tournament opener, Australia is set to confront their arch-rival England on Saturday at the Kensington Oval in Barbados.
