Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif has praised Team India following their victory in the recently concluded ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Team India, led by Rohit Sharma, clinched their second T20 World Cup title by defeating South Africa in the final match held in Barbados. India secured a 7-run victory, marking their long-awaited triumph in the tournament.
Virat Kohli’s resilient innings of 76 runs was pivotal in India’s total of 176/7 after a shaky start, with Axar Patel contributing significantly with 47 runs. Despite South Africa’s strong reply, reaching 169/8 by the end of their innings, India’s bowlers, led by Hardik Pandya who took 3 wickets, staged a remarkable turnaround to seal the victory.
After India’s recent triumph, Mohammad Kaif emphasized that India’s superiority on paper translated into their dominant performance on the field. Kaif, who had previously stirred debate with his assertion that India was the standout team despite losing the ODI World Cup final to Australia last year, stood by his earlier assessment.
His remarks had sparked criticism, particularly from the Australian cricket community, yet he remained steadfast in his belief about India’s exceptional standing in the tournament.
Well, unlike the last time, not many would argue with Kaif’s comments this time. On Monday (July 1), he took to X (formerly Twitter) to pay tribute to Team India’s dominating performance in the T20 World Cup, writing: “Better talent, better skills. This time the better team on field, and on paper, won.
”
India had a commanding performance throughout the competition, winning all 8 matches they played, triumphing over strong teams like England, Australia, and Pakistan. The team will resume play later this week with a five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe.
