Mohammed Shami, the Indian fast bowler, has provided an encouraging update on his recovery progress as he strives to return to competitive cricket. Shami, who hasn’t played since last November’s ODI World Cup final due to an ankle injury, underwent surgery on his right Achilles tendon in February this year.
Despite the setback, he recently shared photos on Instagram showing himself bowling in the nets at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. This development signifies a significant step forward in his rehabilitation journey, offering optimism for his imminent comeback to the field.
“Ball in hand and obsession in my heart, ready to turn the game,” wrote Shami in the caption.
Mohammed Shami set to return to action soon after recovering from injury.
Mohammed Shami’s return to competitive cricket appears imminent as he resumes bowling in the nets. Following India’s white-ball series against Sri Lanka, the team is slated to engage in Test series against Bangladesh and New Zealand at home, followed by a high-stakes tour of Australia featuring a five-match Test series.
While earlier expectations suggested a comeback during the Bangladesh series, recent reports indicate Shami may target a return during the Test series against New Zealand in October-November. His fitness progress suggests a strong likelihood of inclusion in the squad for the Australia tour.
Before his injury, Shami had a standout performance in the ODI World Cup, emerging as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker despite missing initial matches. His remarkable tally of 24 wickets in just 7 games, including three five-wicket hauls, underscored his pivotal role in India’s campaign.
