Indian cricket enthusiasts eagerly await Mohammed Shami’s return to the field after he has been sidelined due to an ankle injury since November last year. Shami had captured the nation’s admiration during the ODI World Cup with his remarkable performance.
Initially benched for the first four matches, he seized his opportunity when Hardik Pandya’s injury opened up a spot in the playing eleven.
Shami then proceeded to dominate, emerging as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker with an impressive tally of 24 wickets in just 7 games. His achievements included three five-wicket hauls, highlighted by a sensational 7-wicket feat against New Zealand in the semifinals.
Even more remarkable was the fact that Shami achieved all this while nursing an ankle injury, relying on injections to persevere through the matches. His dedication to the team was evident despite the injury ultimately forcing him out of action for an extended period.
Mohammed Shami’s comeback date
Mohammed Shami, who has been sidelined since the ODI World Cup final in November and subsequently underwent surgery for his injury, remains eagerly anticipated by fans for his return to competitive cricket.
According to Rohit Juglan of RevSportz, Shami is unlikely to feature in the upcoming series against Bangladesh in September, despite hopes of being fit for the Sri Lanka series earlier this month being dashed by his delayed recovery. Instead, Juglan reports that Shami is targeting a comeback during the 3-match Test series against New Zealand scheduled for October.
