Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni rolled back the years with a vintage performance against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the IPL 2025 season. The legendary wicketkeeper-batter was named Player of the Match, becoming the oldest player ever to receive the honour in IPL history.
Dhoni played a pivotal role in CSK’s five-wicket victory at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Monday, April 14. At 43, he showcased his trademark finishing skills, smashing an unbeaten 26 off just 11 deliveries at a staggering strike rate of 236.36, laced with four boundaries and a towering six.
MS Dhoni etched his name into the record books by becoming the oldest player to win the Player of the Match award in IPL history. The CSK skipper achieved the milestone at 43 years and 281 days, surpassing the previous record set by Pravin Tambe, who won the honour at 42 years and 60 days during the 2014 season.
Despite a stellar bowling effort from Noor Ahmad, who gave away just 13 runs in his four overs, it was Dhoni’s vintage blitz that stole the spotlight. The iconic wicketkeeper-batter was deservingly named Player of the Match — his first such award since the 2019 IPL season.
