MS Dhoni, the iconic former captain of the Indian cricket team, has finally addressed the trending social media hashtag ‘Thala for a reason.’ The hashtag gained immense popularity across various platforms, where Dhoni’s vast fanbase celebrated his remarkable achievements in cricket.
In Tamil Nadu, where the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise is based, ‘Thala’ is a term used to signify a leader or a boss. Dhoni, who has been an integral part of CSK in the IPL, enjoys an ardent following in Chennai, where he is affectionately referred to as ‘Thala’ by his devoted fans.
MS Dhoni speaks out on the ‘Thala for a reason’ trend for the first time.
During a recent event, Dhoni was queried about the viral trend ‘Thala for a reason.’ The esteemed former captain of India disclosed that he became aware of this trend through social media channels.
Expressing gratitude to his dedicated fans, Dhoni acknowledged their unwavering support and remarked that he doesn’t need to advocate for himself online, as his fans passionately take on that role for him.
“I myself wasn’t aware of it. Even I got to know about this via Instagram. So, I am grateful for my fans because I don’t have to defend myself on social media. Whenever needed, my fans do it for me. Whenever needed, my fans praise me. So, I am not required to do anything. So, this was also a part of that,” Dhoni said in a video that has gone viral on X (formerly Twitter).
Dhoni also mentioned that despite his limited activity on social media, his fans eagerly await his updates. He wrapped up the discussion with a nod to the trending phrase, stating, “Thala for a reason.”
“I am very grateful to my fans. Even though I am not very active on social media but still they love the fact that whenever I post something, they wait for it and love it. Thala for a reason!” the former CSK captain added.
MS Dhoni remains active in cricket.
Despite retiring from international cricket after India’s heart-wrenching loss to New Zealand in the 2019 ODI World Cup semi-final, MS Dhoni continues to be a pivotal figure in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as the captain of Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Dhoni has led CSK since the IPL’s inception in 2008, except for the seasons in 2016 and 2017 when the team faced a ban.
Under Dhoni’s astute leadership, Chennai Super Kings have evolved into a dominant force in the IPL. They have clinched the IPL title five times, including their latest triumph in 2023, where they secured a thrilling victory in the final with a last-ball finish. CSK shares the honor of being the most successful franchise in IPL history alongside Mumbai Indians.
