Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has expanded its global presence with the inauguration of its third international academy in Sydney, Australia. Prior to this, CSK had established academies in the UK and Dallas, USA, marking a significant milestone for the franchise’s journey, which saw a temporary suspension from IPL following a spot-fixing scandal.
The newly launched academy is situated at Cricket Central, 161 Silverwater Road, Sydney Olympic Park. Scheduled to commence operations from September 2024, it will provide extensive indoor and outdoor training facilities year-round, catering to both boys and girls aspiring to excel in cricket.
CEO Kasi Viswanathan of Chennai Super Kings expressed his enthusiasm about the Sydney academy’s establishment. He praised Australia’s robust sporting culture and emphasized that the academy aims to nurture young cricket talent across the nation.
“We are happy to extend our special journey to Australia, which began with the inception of the IPL in 2008. Australia is a champion country with a strong sporting culture and a rich cricketing legacy. The Super Kings academy will tap into and help groom cricketers, both boys and girls, adding to the already strong system in the country,” Viswanathan stated.
Australia boasts the most illustrious history in cricket, securing an unparalleled record of six ODI World Cup triumphs and one T20 World Cup victory. In addition to these accolades, they have also claimed two ICC Champions Trophy titles, solidifying their status as a dominant force in the sport.
“We have the opportunity to develop the next generation of cricketers” – Kasi Viswanathan
Viswanathan highlighted the franchise’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of cricketers using the top-notch infrastructure established in Sydney.
“Geographical boundaries are shrinking rapidly in cricket over the last few years. With a presence in India, USA, UK, and now Australia, we have the opportunity to develop the next generation of cricketers through our world-class facilities, strong coaching curriculum, exchange programs, and more,” Kasi Viswanathan added.
Chennai Super Kings share the distinction of being the most successful team in IPL history, having clinched five IPL titles, a feat they share with Mumbai Indians. Their most recent triumph came in the 2023 season, where they secured victory over Gujarat Titans in the final held in Ahmedabad.
Under the leadership of MS Dhoni, CSK has claimed all five of their IPL titles, placing him alongside Rohit Sharma as the joint most successful captain in IPL history.
Beyond the IPL, Chennai Super Kings have expanded their presence into other leagues as well. They field a team named Texas Super Kings in Major League Cricket (MLC) and another team, Johannesburg Super Kings, in SA20.
