Several IPL franchises are reportedly eager to secure Rahul Dravid as their head coach for the upcoming season of the tournament.
Rahul Dravid recently concluded his tenure as India’s head coach after the T20 World Cup in Barbados last month. His time with the Indian team culminated with a remarkable achievement as they clinched the T20 World Cup title, marking Dravid’s first World Cup triumph either as a player or a coach with the senior Indian squad.
Dravid served as the head coach of the Indian team from 2021 to 2024, overseeing significant achievements across various formats. Under his guidance, India won the Asia Cup last year and reached the finals of the ODI World Cup and the World Test Championship.
Following the T20 World Cup victory, Dravid had the opportunity to re-apply for the position of India’s head coach but chose not to, opting instead to step down to prioritize spending more time with his family.

Reports indicate that Rajasthan Royals are particularly eager to bring Dravid back, given his previous association with both playing and coaching roles at the franchise.
However, Rajasthan Royals aren’t alone in their pursuit of Dravid. According to sources cited in Cricbuzz, Mumbai Indians, the five-time IPL champions, are also in contention. It’s rumored that Mumbai Indians are considering parting ways with their current head coach, Mark Boucher, following consecutive seasons without reaching the top spot. Despite making the playoffs in 2023, they faced setbacks this year, failing to advance beyond the league stage.
With the IPL 2024 season marked by controversies, Mumbai Indians are reportedly eyeing Dravid to bring a fresh perspective and effective management to their team. Known for his exceptional leadership and coaching acumen, Dravid’s potential appointment could offer Mumbai Indians the opportunity for a significant turnaround after a challenging season.
