The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to announce its updated central contracts for the 2024-25 season, with changes in player categories based on recent performances.
While some players may face downgrades, their salaries will stay the same. Reports suggest young fast bowler Naseem Shah could be promoted to Category A.
Naseem Shah is set for a big promotion in the PCB’s new central contracts.
Naseem Shah’s rising form is reportedly pushing the PCB to consider promoting him. Conversely, Shadab Khan might face a contract downgrade due to recent struggles. Mohammad Nawaz and Imad Wasim are likely to be left out of the central contract list because of poor performance.
The PCB consulted with selectors and coaches before finalizing the list, emphasizing performance and fitness. Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, and Mohammad Rizwan are currently in Category A, with Naseem Shah expected to join them.
Nawaz and Imad may lose their spots, while openers Imamul Haq and Fakhar Zaman, along with Test captain Shan Masood, are expected to stay in Category B.
Category D will undergo major changes in the PCB Central Contracts.
Media reports suggest significant changes in Category D, with potential reductions in both the category and the number of players. This adjustment aims to better align the central contract system with current performance and strategic needs.
The PCB has decided not to issue NOCs to all-format players for domestic leagues. Initially, the plan was to reduce player categories after the T20 World Cup 2024, but advice from head coach Gary Kirsten influenced this decision.
In other news, former Pakistan pacer Tanvir Ahmed challenged India to visit Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. In a viral video, he questioned why India, which saw Pakistan travel to India for the 2023 ODI World Cup, is hesitant to come to Pakistan for the upcoming event. Tanvir praised the Pakistan team for their bravery and assured the Indian team of their safety.
