Former Pakistan cricketer Kamran Akmal voiced his concerns regarding Naseem Shah’s comments ahead of the first Test against Bangladesh. Akmal suggested that Shah’s remarks implied a lack of unity within the team and urged the PCB to address the issue.
With the Test series between Pakistan and Bangladesh set to begin soon, it also marks Naseem Shah’s return to Test cricket after an injury layoff. Shah is eager to make a strong comeback, and the series presents a crucial chance for Pakistan to rebound from recent poor performances.
During a training session leading up to the series, Naseem Shah addressed the team’s recent struggles, emphasizing the need for improved teamwork. He spoke to Geo News, expressing the necessity for the players to come together as a cohesive unit.
“Yes, our comeback wasn’t great, and we can’t deny that we didn’t play good cricket. Criticism is part of it, and we must endure it until things improve. This is a good chance to bounce back, play better, and show up as a team.“

In response to Naseem Shah’s remarks, Kamran Akmal expressed concern, describing the statement as troubling. He questioned whether the team was truly functioning cohesively, noting that such comments often arise when internal issues are present. Akmal shared his thoughts in a video posted on his YouTube channel.
“Naseem Shah, what he said in the press, that’s a little worrying point for me. That we will have to play as one. What does it mean? Didn’t the team play with unity before? Such things are said in the media when there are such things in the team. So let’s see. The team management and the PCB should end this what Naseem Shah said in the media or what I heard.
“God forbid that these things do not happen. And what the team needs at the moment, is only those who can take cricket to the top level, that’s just a victory, good cricket with good intent. And this is a good opportunity for Pakistan. Pakistan has a series with Bangladesh. They should win 2-0 just like they did when they toured Bangladesh.
“So the Pakistan team shouldn’t take batting so easy. But we will have to work hard. Because in the recent past, we have not played any good cricket.”
The Test series between Pakistan and Bangladesh is scheduled to begin next week. The first match will be held in Rawalpindi on August 21, followed by the second game in Karachi starting August 30. Both matches will be part of the ICC World Test Championship. Under the leadership of Shan Masood, the Pakistani team will be aiming for a strong comeback and hopes to provide fans with reasons to celebrate.
