Since his pivotal catch of David Miller in the T20 World Cup final, Suryakumar Yadav has garnered widespread admiration. Despite his notable batting contributions, it was this catch that stood out, helping India secure their second T20 World Cup title.
Throughout the tournament, SKY amassed 199 runs in 8 matches, boasting an average of 28.43 and a strike rate of 135, featuring 15 boundaries and 10 sixes. His performances included two half-centuries, notably a crucial 47-run knock in the semi-final against England.
While all Indian cricketers showcased exceptional fielding, SKY’s catch exemplified the agility and fitness maintained by the team throughout the tournament.
He is innovation par excellence, he is the evolution of cricket – Navjot Singh Sidhu On Suryakumar Yadav
In an interview with Star Sports, Navjot Singh Sidhu lavished praise on Suryakumar Yadav’s match-winning catch. Sidhu also highlighted Yadav’s batting prowess, emphasizing how he ruthlessly dominates bowlers when he finds his rhythm.
“He is innovation par excellence, he is the evolution of cricket. Our coaches used to ask us to play in the V while his v is opposite to orthodox cricketing shots. His v is opposite to the normal V that is there on a cricket ground. His shots defy the normal coaching manual,” said the former Indian cricketer.
Further explaining how SKY goes about scoring runs on the pitch Sidhu said “he scores all around the ground, 360 degrees. His brain works like a computer. He gets a little more time as he stands deep in the crease. He also uses the angles cleverly standing deep in the crease.”
The ex-Indian cricketer hailed Suryakumar Yadav as cricket’s “Superman” for his fearless approach against bowlers. Sidhu marveled at how Yadav effortlessly dispatches deliveries from outside the off stump to deep square leg, leaving off-side fielders bewildered. According to Sidhu, Yadav possesses exceptional awareness of field placements, making him stand out as a unique talent in the cricketing realm with his innovative shot-making abilities.
“SKY can leave the bowlers helpless, intimidate them, instill fear in them when he is on song. It is Surya who controls the game when he is playing while the other just watch and admire,” said Sidhu as he concluded the segment on SKY.
Following his stunning match-winning catch, Suryakumar Yadav has shared his thoughts on the moment for the first time in an interview with Indian Express. SKY revealed his initial plan to relay the ball to Rohit Sharma, but he found Sharma too distant to execute the relay.
