Virat Kohli’s passion and relentless spirit have inspired not only fans but also many contemporary cricketers from around the world. This was further highlighted by New Zealand women’s cricketer Xara Jetly, who recently expressed her dream of taking a picture with the iconic Indian batter. Jetly, who has yet to make her international debut, shared her admiration for Kohli during a podcast appearance. The 22-year-old off-spinner was asked to name one batter from both men’s and women’s cricket she would like to face.
“If you could bowl to any two cricketers; one from the men’s game and the other from the women’s, whom would you bowl to?” a co-host questioned Jetly on ‘Fine Legs — The Cricket Podcast’. The young bowler, who plays for Wellington Blaze in New Zealand’s domestic cricket, immediately named Virat Kohli as her choice from the men’s game. However, she struggled to recall a specific favorite from the women’s circuit.
Xara Jetly also mentioned her aspiration to take a photo with Virat Kohli and share it on Instagram. “Yeah, this is really basic for me. I’d bowl to…the women’s game is tougher, but in the men’s game, I wanna bowl to Virat Kohli. If I could take a photo with Virat Kohli and put it on Instagram, that would be the GOAL,” she said.
Xara Jetly played a pivotal role in the Wellington Blaze’s victory in the most recent Women’s Super Smash. They narrowly won the final against Canterbury by one run (according to the DLS method) at Eden Park in Auckland. In her 10 matches during the tournament, Jetly took nine wickets with an impressive economy rate of 5.59.
In the One-Day competition, Xara Jetly’s Wellington Blaze finished as the runners-up. Jetly played in 11 matches, taking 17 wickets with an economy rate of under four. Despite her strong performances in domestic cricket, she has not yet received her first call-up to the New Zealand women’s team.
On the other hand, Virat Kohli was last in action during the ODI series against Sri Lanka, where India experienced a 2-0 loss.
