Former India cricketers Sanjay Manjrekar and Deep Dasgupta heaped praise on Jasprit Bumrah, acknowledging his standout performances in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
In the semifinal match against defending champions England on June 27, Bumrah once again showcased his value to the team. Following Axar Patel’s dismissal of Jos Buttler in the fourth over, Bumrah delivered a superb slow off-cutter to dismantle Phil Salt’s stumps in the very next over, significantly boosting India’s position in the match.
Salt, attempting a big shot, was completely deceived by Bumrah’s deceptive delivery, failing to make contact as the ball crashed into the stumps. Bumrah further solidified India’s victory by dismissing Jofra Archer, securing India’s place in the final of the T20 World Cup.
Deep Dasgupta praised Jasprit Bumrah as exceptional, noting that the fast bowler consistently introduces innovative strategies to astonish the cricketing community. Meanwhile, Sanjay Manjrekar expressed his belief that currently, no batsman in the world possesses the ability to effectively challenge Bumrah’s skills on the field.
“Phenomenal. When you expect ‘we have seen enough of him’, he comes up with something new and something that kind of surprises you. That particular delivery, just to come in and bowl fast off-cutters and get that wicket,” said Dasgupta on ESPNcricinfo.
“We talked about before the game began, whether Phil Salt should be going after Bumrah. Because sometimes you have got to be humble and Bumrah is at a space where I don’t think any batter can take him on and he tried to take him on. He was completely beaten,” said Manjrekar.
In the ongoing T20 World Cup, Jasprit Bumrah has been outstanding, claiming 13 wickets in 7 matches with an impressive economy rate of 4.12. Among the top ten wicket-takers in the tournament, no other bowler boasts an economy rate below 5.
Meanwhile, India and South Africa are set to face off in the final of the T20 World Cup 2024, scheduled for Saturday, June 29. India aims to secure their second title and first since 2007, while South Africa, appearing in their maiden final, seeks their inaugural World Cup triumph in any format.
