Following their disappointing exit from the T20 World Cup, Pakistan’s captain Babar Azam along with Mohammad Amir, Imad Wasim, Haris Rauf, Shadab Khan, and Azam Khan have opted to extend their stay in London for a holiday rather than returning to Pakistan with the rest of the squad on Tuesday.
According to a report in The Express Tribune, these players intend to spend quality time with friends and family in London. Some are also considering participating in local cricket leagues in the United Kingdom during their stay.
Meanwhile, head coach Gary Kirsten and assistant coach Azhar Mahmood will be heading to their respective homes as they have no immediate professional commitments. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has granted permission for the coaching staff to return to their countries, as per the report.
Pakistan’s performance in Group A of the T20 World Cup was disappointing, culminating in a narrow three-wicket victory over Ireland in their final match. They suffered losses to hosts USA and arch-rivals India, managing to secure a seven-wicket win over Canada. With four points from as many matches, Pakistan finished third in their group, missing out on a spot in the Super Eight stage where India and USA advanced as the top two teams.
Next on Pakistan’s cricket calendar is a two-match Test series at home against Bangladesh scheduled for August, followed by England’s tour to Pakistan in October.
