Jasprit Bumrah has carved a legendary path in cricket, not only for his unwavering precision on the pitch across all formats but also for his distinctive bowling action. His IPL debut catapulted him into the spotlight, where his unconventional style immediately captured the imagination of fans and experts alike.
Following his successful stint with the Mumbai Indians, Bumrah swiftly transitioned to the national team, where his ascent continued unabated. Despite initial concerns from pundits about the sustainability of his unorthodox bowling technique, particularly its potential toll on his fitness, Bumrah silenced skeptics with his remarkable resilience.
A setback due to a back injury sidelined him temporarily, sparking doubts about his future performance. However, Bumrah’s determined return not only reaffirmed his prowess but also solidified his status as one of the world’s premier pacers.
His contributions were pivotal in India’s unbeaten journey to the 2023 ODI World Cup final. Just recently, his standout performances earned him the player-of-the-tournament accolade in India’s triumphant campaign at the T20 World Cup.
The 30-year-old’s international achievements have sparked inspiration among aspiring cricketers worldwide.
A video circulating on social media shows a young Pakistani boy mimicking his bowling action, capturing the admiration of none other than the legendary Wasim Akram.
Wah jee wah, look at that control and action exactly like the great @Jaspritbumrah93. Video of the day for me. #crickethavenoboundaries,” Akram wrote while sharing the clip.
Currently on a well-earned respite, Bumrah has been on a relentless cricketing spree since his return from a prolonged injury hiatus last August.
Recently, Virat Kohli, India’s batting stalwart, showered accolades on Bumrah for his exceptional display in the T20 World Cup final. With South Africa requiring 30 runs from as many balls at one juncture, Bumrah and his fellow pacers orchestrated a remarkable turnaround, propelling India to a thrilling victory.
“At one time I also felt that ‘man is it going to slip away again’,” Kohli said during a felicitation ceremony organised by BCCI at the Wankhede Stadium. “But what happened in those five overs, two of which were bowled by Jasprit Bumrah was truly, truly special. What I would like everyone is to applaud a guy who brought us back into games, again and again in this tournament,” said Kohli.
“We want him to continue playing for India as long as he can. I’ll sign the petition for Jasprit Bumrah to be the eighth wonder of the world right now. He is a once-in-a-generation bowler,” he added.
