Ahmad Shahzad, who is currently not in favor with the selectors, has urged PCB Chairman Mohsin Raza Naqvi to implement significant changes for the team’s improvement. Following Pakistan’s disappointing performance at the 2024 T20 World Cup, where they were eliminated in the group stage, Shahzad emphasized the need for drastic measures. He suggested that the PCB chairman must undertake a thorough overhaul of the team moving forward.
“Everything was based on facts and it was proved by Pakistan’s poor performance. Now it’s your turn to take drastic measures for the betterment of Pakistan cricket and you will be remembered as a hero for life.” Shahzad wrote on X.
Shahzad emphasized the importance of making decisions based on merit to prevent players from turning against the administration. He warned that if decisions aren’t merit-based, the current group of players could undermine the PCB chairman, as they have done with previous administrations. According to the Pakistan opener, these players have a history of challenging authority, but he reassured that they would remain steadfast.
Shahzad also highlighted that making correct decisions would elevate the PCB chairman to national hero status. He expressed confidence that such decisions would yield positive outcomes and ensure lasting appreciation from the nation. In conclusion, Shahzad affirmed that this was a pivotal opportunity for the chairman to secure a lasting legacy of leadership.
Following a recent leadership change in the Pakistan Cricket Board, Babar Azam was reinstated as the team’s captain. However, the decision appears to have backfired, as Pakistan suffered a 0-2 defeat in their T20I series in England, followed by an early exit from the T20 World Cup in the United States and the West Indies. This disappointing performance has sparked turmoil within Pakistan cricket, prompting numerous former cricketers to advocate for practical and necessary actions to address the situation.
