The Pakistan Cricket Board has chosen Tony Hemming from Australia to serve as its new chief curator under a two-year agreement. This marks a significant move as PCB traditionally relied on short-term foreign experts like Andy Atkinson to enhance pitch standards, whereas Hemming’s appointment represents the first long-term commitment to a foreign curator.
Hemming, originating from Western Australia, brings with him extensive experience spanning four decades in pitch and outfield management. His career includes stints with the ICC and overseeing grounds such as Melbourne, Perth, and Hobart, as well as managing tracks in Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.
In his new role, Hemming has been entrusted with the responsibility of elevating pitch quality ahead of the upcoming home series against Bangladesh, England, and West Indies. Additionally, he will oversee pitch preparations for the domestic season, aiming to enhance standards across the board.
“Hemming will also oversee pitch preparations for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which Pakistan will host from 19 February to 9 March,” added PCB in a statement.
