The issuance of No-Objection Certificates (NOCs) has sparked renewed debate within Pakistan’s cricket community. Historically, tensions have often arisen between the PCB and players over this matter.
The PCB has consistently aimed to restrict players’ involvement in T20 leagues, while players have sought greater flexibility to participate in various leagues. Finding a mutually agreeable solution has proven challenging.
Following Pakistan’s disappointing performance at the T20 World Cup, the PCB has reinforced its policy allowing players a maximum of two NOCs per year for T20 leagues. This decision follows Pakistan’s early exit from the tournament, including losses to the USA and India, preceded by a series defeat in England and a loss to Ireland.
PCB hands out NOCs to 12 players:
On Tuesday, the PCB announced that they had granted No-Objection Certificates (NOCs) to 12 players for participation in various international tournaments. Opening batsman Fakhar Zaman received clearance to join the Caribbean Premier League from August 29th to October 6th.
Left-arm pacer Mohammad Amir was approved to compete in County Cricket from July 4th to July 20th. Spinner Abrar Ahmed and pacers Haris Rauf and Zaman Khan secured NOCs for the upcoming second edition of Major League Cricket.
Mohammad Haris, Mohammad Hasnain, Salman Ali Agha, and Shadab Khan were cleared to play in the Lanka Premier League scheduled from July 1st to July 21st. Sharjeel Khan and Sohaib Maqsood obtained permission to participate in the World Championship of Legends, set from July 3rd to July 13th. Usama Mir received approval to join The Hundred, scheduled from July 23rd to August 20th.
These decisions followed the recent controversy when Azam Khan and Saim Ayub were initially denied NOCs to play in the CPL, despite being retained by their teams. Both players were part of Pakistan’s T20 World Cup squad but did not perform up to expectations during the tournament.
