Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Moshin Naqvi is dissatisfied with the handling of the Pakistan team during the T20 World Cup 2024 by certain senior officials. Reports from PTI suggest that Naqvi intends to implement stricter measures moving forward.

The Pakistan cricket team endured a challenging campaign in the T20 World Cup 2024, failing to meet expectations with consistently poor performances that led to their early exit from the tournament, including losses to the United States of America and India.

Following these disappointing results, tensions within the team have escalated. Chairman Naqvi is particularly concerned about the lack of discipline among players, highlighted recently by an altercation involving Haris Rauf and a fan following their elimination from the tournament.

Moreover, the decision of some Pakistan players to bring their families to the ICC event has also drawn scrutiny. According to reports, the PCB is considering a policy that would prohibit players from having their families accompany them to ICC and other major tournaments.

A source close to the PCB revealed that the Chairman is set to enforce new regulations aimed at addressing these issues. In an interview with PTI, the source elaborated on Naqvi’s intentions:

“You can expect the PCB to lose senior management level officials and also enforce some strict policies for the players in future. The fact that so many players not only took their wives and children to the World Cup but even had their parents, brothers etc staying in the team hotel has left the chairman unhappy,”

PCB Chairman furious says Some of these officials are not professionals

The reports further stated that Chairman Mohsin Naqvi conducted investigations into the authorization for players to bring their families along. It was found that certain officials, who are known to be supporters of the players, permitted this arrangement. The source clarified:

“Some of these officials are not professionals but fans of the players and have given them a lot of concessions which eventually led to the World Cup debacle.”

The source further disclosed that PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has requested performance evaluation reports from all senior management-level officials. Allegedly, Naqvi is discontented with the pace of preparations for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy.

Scheduled to be held in Pakistan in February next year, the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 presents a significant opportunity for the Babar Azam-led team to silence detractors and showcase their capabilities on home soil. The future plans for the team leading up to this tournament are yet to be unveiled.
