Lahore, 8 January 2025: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed that preparations for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 are progressing smoothly, with the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore and National Bank Stadium in Karachi nearly ready to host matches for the prestigious tournament.
In a routine update, the PCB reassured fans, spectators, and the media that all upgradation efforts were on track and will be completed by the set deadlines.
With both Gaddafi Stadium and National Bank Stadium nearing completion, the PCB has decided to move the upcoming tri-nation ODI series, involving New Zealand, South Africa, and Pakistan, from Multan to these two venues.
This decision underscores the PCB’s confidence in the readiness of the upgraded stadiums to offer a top-notch experience for players, officials, and fans. More details about the series will be provided in due course.

Upgrades at Gaddafi Stadium
The Gaddafi Stadium has undergone significant upgrades, increasing its spectator capacity to 35,000 with newly installed seating throughout the venue. To enhance the viewing experience, 480 cutting-edge LED lights have been added, boosting the broadcast LUX levels for superior quality for global audiences. Additionally, two massive digital replay screens, measuring 80 feet by 30 feet and 22 feet by 35 feet, will be set up next week. The stadium’s grand reopening is scheduled for the last week of January. A new hospitality enclosure for players and officials will also be ready by January 25, ensuring a top-tier experience for all involved.
Upgrades at National Bank Stadium
The National Bank Stadium has seen notable upgrades, including the addition of a new hospitality enclosure for players and officials at the University End. In order to boost broadcast quality, 350 LED lights have been installed, providing optimal visibility for viewers worldwide. Furthermore, two digital replay screens are now in place, and 5,000 new seats have been added to enhance comfort for spectators.
Upgrades at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium
The Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium is currently receiving final touch-ups, including the installation of 10,000 new seats, enhancements to the hospitality boxes, and the addition of two digital replay screens. These upgrades are aimed at ensuring the stadium meets international standards for upcoming events.
During the ongoing upgrade process, PCB curators, under Tony Hemming’s guidance, have been working tirelessly to preserve and enhance the outfields and playing surfaces, ensuring they remain protected, healthy, and fresh. As part of this effort, competitive cricket has been temporarily suspended in Lahore and Karachi since the upgrades began, with Rawalpindi last hosting a match in late 2024.
The PCB is fully dedicated to making sure all venues are ready for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and other international events. With more than 250 workers working around the clock to meet the 25 January deadline, the PCB is confident that these improvements will enhance the fan experience and reinforce Pakistan’s status as a top-tier cricketing destination.
