Phil Salt wreaked havoc on West Indies pacer Romario Shepherd during the Super Eight match of the T20 World Cup 2024. In their first Super Eight encounter against the hosts in Saint Lucia, England opted to bowl after winning the toss and restricted the Caribbean team to 180 runs. Defending champions England chased down the target with 15 balls to spare, largely due to Salt’s explosive innings of 87 not out from just 47 balls.
During the 16th over of the chase, Salt punished Shepherd with three sixes and three boundaries. A fan recently shared a clip of this sensational over on social media, captioning it, “Phil Salt smashed 4, 6, 4, 6, 6, 4 in one over against Shepherd.”
Salt asserted his dominance over Shepherd right from the outset, dispatching the first delivery of the over for a boundary with a powerful stroke towards covers. Shepherd attempted to regain control by offering a half-volley, hoping to outwit Salt, but the Englishman responded by launching a massive six. Despite Shepherd’s variation with a slower delivery, Salt remained unfazed, patiently waiting before skillfully guiding the ball over the slip cordon for yet another boundary.
The onslaught continued unabated as Phil Salt smashed the next delivery straight down the ground for a towering six. Romario Shepherd attempted to vary his pace in the penultimate delivery with a short ball, but Salt anticipated it perfectly, dispatching it effortlessly over deep square leg for another six. In the final delivery from the West Indies bowler, Salt capitalized on a low full toss, lofting it gracefully over the covers for yet another boundary. Salt’s impressive batting display paved the way for England’s commanding eight-wicket victory.
