Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his tribute to Ravindra Jadeja following the all-rounder’s retirement from T20 internationals. Jadeja announced his decision just hours after India’s victory in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, becoming the third player from the Indian team to retire from T20Is during this landmark tournament. While Virat Kohli and captain Rohit Sharma confirmed their retirements at the post-match presentation and press conference respectively, Jadeja shared his decision on social media.

Since Jadeja’s announcement, tributes have poured in from all quarters, including Prime Minister Modi, who took to social media to acknowledge the all-rounder’s contributions. Modi expressed gratitude to Jadeja for his memorable performances in T20Is, noting that cricket enthusiasts have cherished his displays on the field.

“You have performed exceptionally as an all-rounder. Cricket lovers admire your stylish stroke play, spin and superb fielding. Thank you for the enthralling T20 performances over the years. My best wishes for your endeavours ahead.”

Ravindra Jadeja was also quick to acknowledge the message from the PM as he replied: “Thanks a lot sir 🙏🏻.”

Ravindra Jadeja’s journey in T20Is began shortly after his pivotal role in India’s Under-19 World Cup triumph in 2008. He made his T20I debut against Sri Lanka in 2009 and went on to represent Team India in 74 matches throughout his career. Jadeja amassed 515 runs and claimed 55 wickets in the shortest format of the game. Notably, he participated in six T20 World Cups for India spanning from 2009 to 2024.

In the T20 World Cup 2024, India secured a thrilling victory over South Africa in the final. Despite a shaky start at 34 for 3, India recovered to post 176/7, anchored by Virat Kohli’s innings of 76. In response, South Africa concluded their innings at 169/8, ensuring India emerged victorious by 7 runs in a tense contest.
