New Zealand’s seasoned fast bowler Tim Southee has voiced his eagerness to join the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Although he has toured Pakistan with the New Zealand team in the past, he has yet to participate in the PSL.
Southee, who has competed in numerous T20 leagues globally, has made his mark in the Indian Premier League with teams such as the Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, and Kolkata Knight Riders. He has also showcased his skills with the Brampton Wolves and Vancouver Knights in the Global T20 Canada.
Currently, Southee is playing for Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred. In a recent interview with a local news channel, he praised the PSL, describing it as an “amazing tournament” and expressing his enthusiasm about potentially participating in it. He also reminisced fondly about his previous tour of Pakistan, noting the many positive memories he has from that experience.
“The Pakistan Super League is an amazing tournament that I follow, and I would be thrilled to be a part of it in the future,” said Tim Southee, as quoted by Geo News.
“Two years ago, I toured Pakistan with the New Zealand team, and I have many pleasant memories of that time. During the Test series, I thoroughly enjoyed the food and hospitality in Karachi,” he added.

Tim Southee also offered his perspective on The Hundred, drawing comparisons with T20 cricket. The New Zealand Test captain expressed his enthusiasm for playing with Birmingham Phoenix but lamented that, similar to T20 formats, The Hundred also tends to be less favorable for bowlers.
“I am happy to represent Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred tournament. Like T20, the Hundred format is also not very bowler-friendly,” said Tim Southee.
Tim Southee, the leading wicket-taker in T20 Internationals, has claimed 164 wickets to date, a milestone no other bowler has yet reached in the format. Given his exceptional record, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him feature in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) in the near future.
