Arshdeep Singh shone brightly in India’s victorious ICC T20 World Cup 2024 campaign, ending as the joint-highest wicket-taker alongside Afghanistan’s Fazalhaq Farooqi with 17 wickets.
Ramiz Raja, former Pakistan captain, has lauded Arshdeep Singh for his composed performances under pressure and eagerness to learn. India secured the T20 World Cup 2024 title undefeated on June 29th.
Ramiz Raja applauds Arshdeep Singh’s pivotal role in India’s T20 World Cup 2024 win.
Arshdeep Singh was instrumental in India’s T20 World Cup 2024 victory, notably delivering a crucial penultimate over in the final against South Africa in Barbados. He conceded just four runs and ended with impressive figures of 2/20.
Ramiz Raja commended Arshdeep for his role in India’s historic triumph, highlighting that while Jasprit Bumrah, awarded ‘Player of the Tournament’ for his 15 wickets, was the main bowler under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, Arshdeep has admirably learned from him without being overshadowed.
Ramiz Raja said in his YouTube channel ‘Ramiz Speaks’: “Bumrah ke hote hue, ye craft seekh bhi rahe hain, par unse dab nahi rahe hain (with Bumrah there, Arshdeep is learning from him and not feeling the pressure because of Bumrah’s presence). It’s very important for him to back himself and prove that he is on par with Bumrah, if not better than him. So, to challenge himself that way is very important for Arshdeep’s growth, because if he will compete with the world’s best bowler, then his own bowling will touch the sky.”
Raja praised Arshdeep’s knack for excelling under pressure, especially in the death overs, where his tactical use of length balls and slower deliveries has proven crucial. The former PCB chairman highlighted Arshdeep’s intelligent bowling and effective field placements, underscoring his significance as a valuable asset to the Indian cricket team.

The commentator further noted. “He comes on to bowl in do-or-die situations (death overs), like if he doesn’t deliver, the team will lose and he might be out of the squad. But he bowls cleverly, and to his field, when to bowl length balls, slower balls can bowl the slower bouncer as well. So, he offers a lot of advantage to his team.”
Raja concluded by emphasizing the ongoing improvement in Indian cricket, particularly in the skill level of their bowlers every six months. He praised their resilience and consistent performance, noting a noticeable upward trend in skill and a strong willingness to learn, exemplified in Arshdeep’s bowling.
The former Pakistan captain signed off by acknowledging the collective effort of all Indian bowlers in their T20 World Cup triumph. Despite some bowlers being under pressure, most delivered commendable performances with tight bowling and astuteness on challenging flat tracks during the recent ICC tournament, which tested their quality and credibility.
