Former Pakistani cricketer Rashid Latif recently commented on Virat Kohli’s disappointing performance in the T20 World Cup 2024 semi-final against England. Latif bluntly remarked that Kohli should realize that batting is challenging, especially on pitches unlike those in Bengaluru.
Virat Kohli’s struggles in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 continued in the semi-final against England at Providence Stadium in Guyana. The renowned batsman failed to make an impact yet again, falling for a low score.
Despite high expectations from Kohli as a key player in big matches, he endured another dismal outing, failing to surpass 10 runs. Attempting to adopt an aggressive approach, Kohli managed a solitary six before being dismissed by Reece Topley, departing with just 9 runs to his name.
In the tournament overall, Kohli’s form has been subpar, tallying only 75 runs across 7 innings. His struggles have hampered India’s ability to secure quick starts in matches.
Reflecting on Kohli’s performance in the semi-final, Rashid Latif emphasized that the Indian batsman deviated from his game plan and needs to recognize the challenges posed by the pitch conditions. Speaking to Caught Behind, Latif provided his insights on Kohli’s approach during the crucial match.
“Virat Kohli went out of his plan. This is not a Bengaluru pitch, this is a different one. Hitting the ball is not easy on this surface. The entire team combined to post a total of 171. It is not that easy, there are problems here for batters.”
Rashid Latif – It was tough for Rohit Sharma as he lost the toss and had to come out to bat
In contrast, India’s captain Rohit Sharma delivered a remarkable performance. Leading by example, he crafted a superb innings, scoring 57 runs that significantly contributed to his team’s victory by a margin of 68 runs.
Rashid Latif highlighted Rohit Sharma’s exceptional batting display under challenging conditions. According to Latif, adverse weather conditions restricted the Indian batsmen from playing with freedom, making it a demanding phase for them. He further commented:
“It was tough for Rohit Sharma as he lost the toss and had to come out to bat. Virat Kohli was dismissed and rain interrupted the game. That period is very bad. Waiting for umpires, seeing super soppers in action and then coming out to bat again.”
India is set to face South Africa in the final of the T20 World Cup 2024, scheduled to be held on June 29th in Barbados.
