Michael Vaughan accused the ICC of favoring India in the scheduling of the T20 World Cup 2024. Ravi Shastri, former head coach of India, responded by questioning Vaughan’s authority to comment on the tournament’s scheduling.
During their journey to Trinidad for the T20 World Cup semifinal against South Africa, the Afghanistan team faced a flight delay, leaving them with limited time to prepare. Despite reaching the semifinals for the first time in an ICC tournament, Afghanistan suffered a disappointing defeat, being bowled out for just 56 runs under Rashid Khan’s captaincy.
“So Afghanistan qualified for the WC semi, winning in St Vincent on Monday night .. 4 hr flight delay on Tues to Trinidad so no time to practice or get accustomed to a new venue .. utter lack of respect to players, i am afraid,” tweeted Vaughan.
“Surely this semi should have been the Guyana one .. but because the whole event is geared towards India it’s so unfair on others .. #T20IWorldCup.”
Michael Vaughan Can Say What He Wants – Ravi Shastri
In an interview with Times Now on Friday, Ravi Shastri advised Michael Vaughan to concentrate on England’s performance in the T20 World Cup. Highlighting Vaughan’s lack of personal experience in winning trophies, Shastri emphasized India’s track record of success in international cricket.
“Michael can say what he wants. Nobody in India cares. Let him sort out the England team first. He should give advice on what happened to the England team in the semifinal. India are used to lifting Cups. I know England have won twice, but India have won four times. I don’t think Michael’s lifted a Cup ever. So think twice. He is a colleague of mine, but that’s my answer to him,” Shastri said.
Prior to the T20 World Cup, the ICC declared that India would play their semi-final in Guyana, regardless of their standings in the Super Eight stage. This decision was made to accommodate prime-time viewership in India. Interestingly, the semi-final between India and England in Guyana did not have a reserve day scheduled.
The Name India Will Be Engraved On It – Ravi Shastri
Ravi Shastri brushed aside the controversy surrounding Suryakumar Yadav’s catch in the final over of the T20 World Cup against South Africa, labeling it as “sour grapes.” The ex-Indian all-rounder confidently asserted that India’s achievement would be etched in the record books for years to come.
“Sour grapes. And go and check the record books after five years. The name India will be engraved on it,” Shastri added.
On June 29 in Barbados, India clinched a nail-biting seven-run victory over South Africa in the T20 World Cup final. With South Africa needing 16 runs off the final over, David Miller struck Hardik Pandya’s first ball towards long-off, where Suryakumar Yadav executed a breathtaking juggling catch on the boundary.
