Fast bowler Vijaykumar Vyshak had the opportunity to train alongside star Indian batter Virat Kohli during their time with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Vyshak has shared his insights about what it was like to learn from Kohli and the valuable lessons he gained from the experience.
In IPL 2024, Vyshak played four matches, taking 4 wickets with an average of 35.50 and an economy rate of 9.79. Although his statistics may not appear impressive at first glance, he performed commendably on batting-friendly pitches, often outshining other RCB bowlers who struggled to contain the runs.

Vijaykumar Vyshak is set to join the Gulbarga Mystics for the upcoming Maharaja Trophy Karnataka State Cricket Association T20 tournament. As the team’s vice-captain, Vyshak brings a wealth of experience from his previous IPL appearances.
In a recent interview leading up to the tournament, Vyshak reflected on his time training with Virat Kohli. He highlighted Kohli’s meticulous approach to the game, emphasizing that every aspect of the legendary batter’s training is executed with remarkable precision.
“Training with Virat Kohli can really impact you as a player. Last season, while I admired him, I paid attention to the finer details such as his work ethic, his process, and his consistency. Whether it is his eating habits or practice routine, everything is done with precision,” Vyshak stated.

Vyshak was deeply impressed by Kohli’s unwavering confidence before each match and decided to adopt a similar mindset for himself.
“It is admirable how confident he is before every game, and now I try to have the same confidence every time I step onto the field,” he added.
Virat Kohli, renowned for his exceptional fitness, continues to set a high standard even at 35. His remarkable agility and peak physical condition serve as a powerful inspiration for younger cricketers to elevate their own fitness levels.
As a senior player, Kohli consistently positions himself in key fielding spots, showcasing his all-around commitment. In IPL 2024, he was the tournament’s top run-scorer, amassing 741 runs across 15 matches with an impressive average of 61.75 and a strike rate of 154.69. His stellar performance included one century and five half-centuries.

Vijaykumar Vyshak expressed his gratitude to Mohammed Siraj for the support he received during the IPL. As a senior bowler and key strike player for RCB, Siraj played a significant role in guiding and assisting Vyshak throughout the season.
“In my first game for RCB, I did well, but then I conceded 60 runs in the next match. Siraj told me, ‘This is the game, and this is the challenge at the highest level.’ I am keen to keep this in mind and to pass on these lessons whenever I can,” The 27-year-old Karnataka quick mentioned.
RCB’s IPL 2024 campaign began sluggishly, with only one win from their first eight matches. However, they made a remarkable comeback by securing six consecutive victories, which propelled them into the playoffs. Unfortunately, their journey ended with a loss to the Rajasthan Royals in the Eliminator.
