Anil Kumble said: Arshdeep Singh gives extra variety with his left arm pace.
Anil Kumble commended Arshdeep Singh’s left-arm pace, stating that it adds valuable variety to Team India’s bowling lineup.
Anil Kumble lauded Arshdeep Singh’s left-arm pace, emphasizing its potential to diversify Team India’s bowling options in the current T20 World Cup 2024. Arshdeep’s outstanding performance against the US earned him the Player of the Match title on Wednesday, where he claimed four wickets while conceding only nine runs in his four-over spell, boasting an impressive economy rate of 2.20.
In a conversation with ESPNcricinfo, Kumble highlighted Arshdeep’s remarkable bowling, particularly in the crucial last over against Pakistan, which distinguishes him from Mohammed Siraj. The former cricketer noted that Arshdeep would derive satisfaction from the confidence gained through his performance against the USA in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 fixture held in New York.
“I think so. I think the way Arshdeep Singh bowled that last over against Pakistan, and also the way he can bowl in different areas in the T20 game, I think certainly puts him ahead of Mohammed Siraj. If at all India takes that option of going with just the two seamers and Hardik Pandya. So yes, in that sense, plus he also gives you an extra variety with his left arm pace. So overall, he must be happy. He’ll be happy with the confidence that he’s got from this game,” Kumble said.
Summarizing the game, India’s captain Rohit Sharma elected to field after winning the toss. The USA managed to set a competitive total of 110/8 in their allotted 20 overs, thanks to significant contributions from Nitish Kumar and Steven Taylor.
Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya stood out among India’s bowlers, with Axar Patel also chipping in with a wicket.
During India’s chase of 111 runs, they faced early setbacks with Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Rishabh Pant departing cheaply, leaving the team struggling at 39/3 in 7.3 overs. However, Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube turned the tide with a crucial 72-run partnership for the fourth wicket.
Saurabh Netravalkar impressed with the ball for the USA.
Arshdeep Singh’s exceptional performance earned him the ‘Player of the Match’ award for his standout spell.
