Rinku Singh gained prominence in the 2023 IPL season, finishing as Kolkata Knight Riders’ top run-scorer. Notably, he hit five consecutive sixes in a match against Gujarat Titans, leading KKR to an unexpected victory.
Following his impressive IPL performance, Rinku debuted for India in August during the Ireland series, accumulating two ODIs and 23 T20Is. While he’s expected to be retained by KKR for the IPL 2025 mega auction, Rinku has expressed a desire to join Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore if Kolkata opts to release him.
In a recent interview with Sports Today, Rinku Singh revealed that he would like to join RCB if KKR doesn’t retain him, citing his admiration for Virat Kohli. Despite being a reserve player for India in the T20 World Cup 2024, Rinku was overlooked by the BCCI for the upcoming Duleep Trophy 2024, starting on September 5 in Andhra Pradesh. He attributed his exclusion from the squads announced on August 14 to his recent performances in domestic cricket.
“Maine itna acha kara nahi hai. Zyada matches bhi nahi khele the Ranji Trophy ke, 2-3 matches he khele the aur acha kara bhi nahi tha, isliye select nahi hua. Agle matches honge toh, hopefully naam aa jaye mera.”
Rinku Singh’s most recent appearance for India was in the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka in July 2024, where he took two wickets in the third T20I. He believes that this performance has highlighted his ability to contribute as a bowler as well.
“Sab ko pata chal gaya hai (about his bowling) kyuki last Sri Lanka wale match mein maine bowl daali thi aur 2 wickets bhi liye the toh sabko pata chal gaya hai ki mai bowl bhi daal skta hoon.”
