Delhi Capitals’ surprising decision to part company with Ricky Ponting has sparked widespread interest. The franchise made the announcement unexpectedly last week.

Ponting, the former Australia captain, had been at the helm as head coach of the Delhi-based team since 2018. During his tenure, Delhi Capitals achieved significant milestones, including their maiden IPL final appearance and two playoff qualifications. However, their performance declined over the last three seasons, failing to progress beyond the league stage each time.

Following this disappointing run, Delhi Capitals opted to part ways with Ricky Ponting. His departure as head coach has fueled speculation about the future of players like Rishabh Pant within the team.

Rishabh Pant to leave Delhi Capitals?

Recent reports indicate uncertainty surrounding Rishabh Pant’s future with Delhi Capitals following Ricky Ponting’s departure. The wicketkeeper-batsman shares a close relationship with Ponting, who played a pivotal role in Pant’s ascension to team captaincy in 2021. Despite Shreyas Iyer leading the team to the 2020 finals, he was subsequently released, paving the way for Pant’s leadership.

Speculation suggests Pant might move to Chennai Super Kings, as reported by Republic. With MS Dhoni possibly nearing the end of his playing career, CSK may seek a suitable successor, making Pant an attractive option. While Dhoni’s future plans remain undecided, retirement ahead of the upcoming season or thereafter wouldn’t be unexpected.

Pant has been a fixture with Delhi Capitals since his IPL debut in 2016, amassing 3284 runs across 111 matches, including a century and 18 half-centuries. He topped Delhi’s batting charts in the latest IPL season, scoring 446 runs with three half-centuries to his credit.
