Former Indian middle-order batsman Robin Uthappa has identified Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal, alongside a standout batsman from Chennai Super Kings, as three cricketers poised to dominate the global scene over the next decade. Shubman Gill has solidified his place in the Indian squad across all formats and recently led India to a convincing 4-1 victory in a T20I series against Zimbabwe.
Gill, aged 24 and known for his right-handed batting, featured prominently in India’s campaign at the 2023 ODI World Cup, finishing as the tournament’s leading run-scorer in the 50-over format the previous year. Meanwhile, Yashasvi Jaiswal earned his India cap after an impressive IPL 2023 season with the Rajasthan Royals, amassing 625 runs in 14 matches.
Jaiswal made an impact in his Test debut against the West Indies, notching up a commanding 171 runs. He also marked his T20I debut during the same series and subsequently became India’s youngest centurion in T20Is during the Asian Games.
Recently, Jaiswal showcased his prowess with a stellar performance of over 700 runs in the Test series against England earlier this year and played a crucial role in India’s triumph at the T20 World Cup 2024.
During a rapid-fire round on Cricket.com, Uthappa was asked, “Which three cricketers do you feel can really rule the roost in the next 10 years worldwide?” and in reply, he said, “Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Rachin Ravindra.”
In 2023, New Zealand’s batting all-rounder Rachin Ravindra experienced a breakout season akin to Jaiswal and Gill. The 24-year-old southpaw made a resounding entry into the ODI World Cup, marking his debut with a century against England in Ahmedabad on October 5. His stellar form continued with two more centuries against Australia and Pakistan, crucial in securing a semi-final spot for Kane Williamson’s team, finishing 4th in the league standings.
By the end of the tournament held entirely in India, Ravindra had amassed 578 runs from 10 matches, cementing his status as a formidable performer on the international stage. His impressive showing earned him his inaugural IPL contract. However, his debut season with CSK saw limited success with the bat, as he managed 222 runs across 10 matches.
