Mutual respect was evident as MS Dhoni, known as Captain Cool, lauded the current Indian cricket team following their victory in the 2024 T20 World Cup in Barbados on Saturday, where they defeated South Africa to secure their first ICC trophy since 2013.
India had last clinched a T20 World Cup trophy in the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2007 under Dhoni’s leadership. He had previously led India to international success, securing both the T20 and ODI World Cups in 2007 and 2011 respectively.
Now, it was Rohit Sharma who restored glory to India, prompting the retired cricketing legend to express his enthusiasm and pride in witnessing the team’s achievement once again.
“WORLD CUP CHAMPIONS 2024. My heart rate was up, well done on being calm, having the self belief and doing what u guys did,” Dhoni wrote on Instagram.
“From all the Indians back home and everywhere in the world a big thank you for bringing the World Cup Home. CONGRATULATIONS. arreeee thanks for the priceless birthday gift,” he added.
When questioned about the significance of receiving praise from his predecessor Dhoni, Rohit expressed his joy and gratitude, commending the former captain for his invaluable contributions to Indian cricket.
“Dhoni was a fabulous player. He did a lot for us and the country. I felt good that he appreciated us after our victory,” Rohit stated to press after his win against South Africa.
