Following India’s triumphant campaign in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Indian cricket team, marked the occasion by updating his profile picture on X. The change was inspired by the team’s exceptional journey to victory, culminating in a thrilling 7-run win over South Africa in the final.
Throughout the tournament, Sharma’s side displayed dominance, not dropping a single match. They sailed through the group stage with victories over Ireland, Pakistan, and the USA. Continuing their impressive form in the Super 8s, India conquered Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Australia. In the semifinal clash, England fell victim to India’s prowess as they succumbed by a massive 68-run margin, paving the way for a showdown with South Africa in the final.
To commemorate the historic win, Rohit Sharma selected a poignant moment captured in Barbados for his new profile picture on X. The iconic image depicts Sharma proudly planting the Indian flag at Kensington Oval following the victory over South Africa. Within moments of its posting, the picture garnered over 100,000 likes, symbolizing the nation’s pride and celebration of India’s T20 World Cup triumph after a gap of 17 years.
Meanwhile, after updating his profile picture on X to commemorate India’s T20 World Cup victory, Rohit Sharma found himself temporarily without his verification badge. This change was a result of Twitter’s policy, announced during the relaunch of Twitter Blue in 2022, which requires subscribers to temporarily forfeit their verification badge when they alter their handle, display name, or profile photo. The badge will be reinstated following a review by Twitter to ensure the authenticity and integrity of the account.
Rohit Sharma sets sights on Champions Trophy and WTC trophy.
Following his successful leadership in securing India the T20 World Cup trophy this year, Rohit Sharma is now aiming for the Champions Trophy and the World Test Championship (WTC) trophy next year. BCCI secretary Jay Shah has officially confirmed Rohit’s role as captain for both tournaments in the upcoming season.
“Our next target is WTC Final and Champions Trophy. I am confident that under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, we will win both the tournaments,” said Shah.
India’s quest for the Champions Trophy title has been elusive since their triumph in 2013. In the previous edition, led by Virat Kohli, they reached the final but were defeated by Pakistan in the decisive match.
In the World Test Championship (WTC), India has reached the final in both cycles but fell short in claiming the trophy. Under Kohli’s captaincy, they lost to New Zealand in 2021, and under Rohit Sharma’s leadership last year, they were defeated by Australia in the final.
