Former India captain Kapil Dev has showered praise on Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, highlighting a key distinction between him and his predecessor Virat Kohli.
Rohit Sharma’s leadership has garnered attention once more amid India’s impressive run in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The Indian team has displayed formidable form throughout the tournament, securing their spot in the semifinals. Alongside South Africa, India stands as one of only two unbeaten teams in the competition thus far.
During the group stages, India triumphed over Ireland, Pakistan, and the USA under challenging conditions to advance to the next round. In the Super 8s, under Rohit Sharma’s guidance, the team continued their winning streak by defeating Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and reigning Test and ODI champions Australia, ensuring their place in the semifinals.
Kapil Dev has lauded Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, noting his poised approach compared to his predecessor Kohli. In an interview with ABP News, the cricket legend highlighted Rohit’s understanding of his strengths and limitations, contrasting his style with players who prioritize personal performance.
Further emphasizing Rohit’s leadership, Kapil Dev commended him for fostering team harmony and ensuring the collective happiness of the squad.
“He doesn’t play like Virat, doesn’t jump around, but he knows his limitations. And within those limitations, no one is better than him,” said Kapil Dev.
“Many great players come along, and they lead just for themselves. So Rohit has got one extra tick marked over them because he keeps the entire team happy,” he added.
Meanwhile, Team India is set to clash with defending champions England in the second semifinal of the T20 World Cup, scheduled for Wednesday (June 27) in Guyana. In the previous edition, India endured a crushing 10-wicket defeat against England in the semifinals and are eager to redeem themselves this time around.
In the first semifinal, Afghanistan and South Africa will vie for their maiden spot in the T20 World Cup final, marking a significant milestone for both teams.
