Rohit Sharma basks in the admiration following India’s thrilling victory in the 2024 T20 World Cup final against South Africa in Barbados last week. The world champions arrived in New Delhi on Thursday morning to a warm welcome, despite the rain, with hundreds of fans gathering at Indira Gandhi International Airport to greet the team.
Rohit, along with Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and others, was seen at the airport after their special Air India flight from Barbados, where they were delayed for nearly three days due to Hurricane Beryl.
The BCCI shared a video of an enthusiastic Rohit waving the World Cup trophy to acknowledge the fans lining the streets of Delhi.
The video begins with BCCI secretary Jay Shah presenting Rohit Sharma a bouquet upon their arrival, accompanied by other India cricketers and support staff on the same flight. At the airport, Rohit and Shah celebrated by cutting a special cake before boarding the Indian team bus to their hotel, from where they proceeded to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence.
India maintained an undefeated streak throughout their 2024 T20 World Cup campaign, achieving a historic milestone as the first team to win the tournament without losing a single match. Under Rohit’s captaincy, the team won three out of four Group A matches, with one match abandoned due to a wet outfield. They secured victories against Ireland, Pakistan, and USA in the first round to advance to the Super 8 stage.
In the second round, India continued their winning momentum by defeating Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Australia, securing a spot in the semi-finals where they faced the defending champions England. The semi-final proved to be a dominant display by India, propelling them into the final against South Africa.
