India’s captain Rohit Sharma has outpaced Babar Azam following India’s dominant victory over England in the T20 World Cup 2024 semi-final. India displayed a commanding performance, crushing England’s aspirations with a comprehensive display.
This triumph marks India’s third entry into the T20 World Cup final. The Men in Blue will now face South Africa in the ultimate showdown scheduled for June 29 at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados. Earlier, South Africa secured their spot by defeating Afghanistan by 9 wickets in the first semi-final.
Rohit Sharma broke Babar Azam’s record as the most successful captain in T20I history following India’s victory over England. Rohit now boasts a remarkable record of leading India to 49 wins from 61 T20I matches, achieving an impressive win percentage of 78.68. The Indian captain eyes his 50th win in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 final against South Africa, aiming to make it a memorable triumph.
Meanwhile, Babar Azam slips to second place with 48 wins in 85 T20Is, holding a win percentage of 56.47. Babar had a disappointing T20 World Cup 2024 campaign, scoring 122 runs in four matches as Pakistan suffered an unexpected exit in the group stage following a defeat to USA.
Rohit Sharma has been exceptional in the T20 World Cup 2024, excelling both as a captain and a batsman. As an opener, he has amassed 248 runs in seven matches at an impressive average of 41.33 and a striking strike rate of 155.97.
His standout performances include two crucial half-centuries against strong opponents like Australia and England. In the Super 8 stage, he blazed to 92 runs off just 41 balls against Australia, smashing 7 fours and 8 sixes. In the semi-final showdown with England, Rohit provided a solid start with a vital 57 off 39 balls.
