India captain Rohit Sharma has addressed Inzamam-ul-Haq’s allegations of ball-tampering against Team India following their convincing victory over Australia in the Super 8 match of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Inzamam accused Indian pacers of consistently tampering with the ball during the tournament, asserting that they manipulate match balls to achieve reverse swing. Given India’s impressive bowling display, Inzamam suggested that such success couldn’t be achieved without altering the ball.

Inzamam and another former Pakistan captain, Saleem Malik, highlighted Arshdeep’s performance against Australia, questioning the possibility of obtaining reverse swing as early as the 14th or 15th over. Inzamam emphasized the importance for umpires to vigilantly monitor these aspects before dismissing concerns about early reverse swing.

Rohit Sharma’s reply to Inzamam-ul-Haq:

When questioned about the allegations during his media briefing before India’s semifinal against England, Rohit Sharma chuckled at the accusations. He clarified that the bowlers’ ability to achieve reverse swing in Caribbean conditions was due to natural factors. Rohit also humorously jabbed at the former Pakistan cricketers, suggesting they keep an open mind about the game.

“What answer will I give? If you are playing under the sun and the wickets are this dry, the ball will reverse on its own. The ball is reversing for all teams. Not just for us. Sometimes, it’s important to open your mind (use your brain). You have to understand where we are playing. We are not playing in England or Australia,” Rohit Sharma said.

Meanwhile, India is set to face England on Thursday (June 27) to secure a spot in the final. In the previous T20 World Cup, India endured a heavy defeat by 10 wickets against England in the semifinals, aiming to turn the tables this time. Prior to the India-England match, South Africa will clash with Afghanistan in the first semifinal.
