On Friday, August 2, Rohit Sharma made his return to action for India as he captained the team in the first ODI against Sri Lanka at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The 37-year-old notched up a half-century, but despite his efforts, India fell short in their chase of 231 runs, resulting in a tie.
Throughout the first innings, Rohit Sharma also entertained cricket fans with some memorable stump mic exchanges. In one particular over, Washington Sundar managed to deceive Sri Lanka’s Dunith Wellalage, prompting an appeal from the Indian team. It appeared that Wellalage might have been out LBW, given the ball struck his knee pad in front of the wicket. As Sundar contemplated whether to request a review, he looked to Rohit for guidance. In a classic moment, the Indian captain responded with a lighthearted, “What? You tell me!”
Sony Sports Network posted the amusing clip on X, captioning it with, “Rohit Sharma’s classic stump mic banter at its best.”
As soon as Rohit turned to Sundar for guidance, a grin spread across the India captain’s face. He was then heard saying, “Why are you looking at me? Should I do everything for you?”
The funny moment even had commentator Aakash Chopra breaking into laughter. who said, “The stump mic is really made for him.”
Sundar, chosen ahead of Riyan Parag for the first ODI, took one wicket for 46 runs in his allotted nine overs. He was also promoted to bat at No. 4 during the run chase but couldn’t capitalize on the chance, getting out after scoring just five runs off four balls.
