Sai Sudharsan, the promising young batsman from Tamil Nadu, received his maiden T20I cap for India ahead of the second T20I against Zimbabwe at Harare Sports Club on Sunday, July 7th.
This marks a significant milestone in Sudharsan’s career as he steps onto the international stage in T20 cricket. The captain, Shubman Gill, presented him with the cap, a moment filled with joy and pride for the debutant. Notably, Sudharsan had made his ODI debut for India against South Africa just last year.

Sai Sudharsan earned his place in the team, replacing Khaleel Ahmed. With the India National Cricket Team opting for an additional batsman in the XI, this presents a significant opportunity for the Gujarat Titans batsman to secure his spot in T20Is and contribute immediately to the team’s success.
Addressing the toss, Shubman Gill disclosed the alteration, mentioning: “Going to bat first, same wicket like yesterday. Best opportunity for us to bat. Looks dry, it’s a nice sunny day. Need to improve our batting, Sudharsan comes in for Khaleel.”
Sai Sudharsan joins the ranks as India’s fourth debutant in the current series against the Zimbabwe National Cricket Team. In the first match, India introduced Dhruv Jurel, Abhishek Sharma, and Riyan Parag, but both batsmen struggled to leave a mark in their inaugural appearances for the Indian team.
Abhishek Sharma was dismissed for a golden duck, while Riyan Parag managed just 2 runs. It was a disappointing batting display overall for the India National Cricket Team, resulting in a 13-run defeat as they failed to chase down Zimbabwe’s target of 116 runs under Shubman Gill’s captaincy.
However, the upcoming second game against Zimbabwe presents a crucial opportunity for redemption. The debutants from the previous match, alongside Sai Sudharsan, will be eager to contribute effectively and help India bounce back to level the series 1-1, following a challenging start in the opening encounter.
