Former Sri Lanka captain Sanath Jayasuriya has been appointed as the interim head coach of Sri Lanka’s cricket team ahead of their upcoming white-ball series against India, starting later this month.
Jayasuriya, known for his aggressive batting style, takes over from Englishman Chris Silverwood, who resigned following Sri Lanka’s disappointing T20 World Cup performance. Jayasuriya will also lead Sri Lanka on their Test tour to England, according to reports from ‘Daily Mirror’.
In his illustrious career spanning 445 ODIs, the left-handed batsman amassed 13,430 runs at an average of 32.36, including 28 centuries and 68 half-centuries.
He played a pivotal role in Sri Lanka’s victorious 1996 ODI World Cup campaign and later served as a Member of Parliament from 2010 to 2015.
