Sanjay Bhardwaj, coach of Gautam Gambhir, expressed strong support for his pupil to assume the role of head coach for India’s men’s team following the conclusion of the T20 World Cup 2024 across the West Indies and the USA. Bhardwaj emphasized it would be a significant milestone to witness his student leading the India national cricket team.
Rahul Dravid’s current stint as head coach will conclude after the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. The former Indian cricketer has expressed interest in extending his tenure for a second term. Recent reports indicate that Gautam Gambhir is emerging as the leading candidate to succeed Dravid at the helm of the Indian team.
In the preceding month, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) opened applications for the head coach position through its official website. Reports further suggest that Gambhir participated in a virtual interview conducted by the BCCI’s Cricket Advisory Committee. WV Raman also presented himself during an interview, showcasing a highly impressive and detailed presentation.
India Will Surely Win A World Cup says Sanjay Bhardwaj
Sanjay Bhardwaj voiced strong optimism about India’s prospects of winning a World Cup under Gautam Gambhir’s coaching tenure spanning 3-4 years. He expressed immense pride at the prospect of his student leading Team India.
“If Gautam Gambhir will be the coach of the team for 3-4 years, India will surely win a World Cup. It will be a very good feeling if my student coaches Team India,” Sanjay told ANI.
Sanjay Bhardwaj expressed optimism about India’s World Cup prospects under Rohit Sharma’s leadership. He emphasized that India, bolstered by an enhanced bowling attack with Jasprit Bumrah’s return, could clinch the title after a 12-year wait.
“We have been performing very well. Earlier, our bowling attack was not good. But now our bowling attack has also become good with pacers like Jasprit Bumrah. I hope that we will win the World Cup after 12 years,” Sanjay added.
The Indian team remains unbeaten in the ongoing T20 World Cup. Under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, they are on the brink of securing a spot in the semi-finals. Currently topping Group 1 in the Super 8 stage, they have secured victories over Afghanistan and Bangladesh.
Earlier, in Group A, India triumphed over Ireland, Pakistan, and the USA. Their final group match against Canada in Florida was canceled due to a wet outfield. In their first Super 8 match on June 20, India defeated Afghanistan by 47 runs in Barbados.
India extended their flawless run in the tournament with a commanding 50-run victory over Bangladesh in their second Super 8 encounter. The champions of the inaugural T20 World Cup are now set to clash against Australia in their concluding Super 8 fixture at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St Lucia, scheduled for Monday, June 24.
