Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has made a bold assertion regarding the impact of coaches on India’s cricketing success. He emphasized that it’s not the coach but the strength of Indian cricket itself that has been responsible for the nation’s four World Cup victories. Manjrekar’s comments come as Gautam Gambhir steps into the role of head coach for the Sri Lanka tour, succeeding Rahul Dravid.
Dravid’s tenure as coach concluded with India’s recent T20 World Cup win in the Caribbean. Despite this, the team has faced setbacks in other ICC tournaments, falling short in both the World Test Championship final and the ODI World Cup final against Australia last year.
Fans are eagerly anticipating Gautam Gambhir’s new role with Team India, but Sanjay Manjrekar’s recent post on X has left them puzzled.
“No coach, Lalchand Rajput, Gary Kirsten & Dravid. Coaches when India won WCs in 1983, 2007, 2011 & 2023. It’s really about Indian cricket, not who the coach is. Time we stop thinking there is a direct correlation,” Manjrekar wrote on X.
