Shafali Verma of the Indian Women’s Cricket Team achieved a historic milestone on Friday in Chennai during the one-off Test against South Africa. She became the fastest woman cricketer to reach a double century, accomplishing this feat in just 196 deliveries. This surpassed the previous record set by Australia’s Annabel Sutherland, who took 248 deliveries to reach a double hundred.
Shafali partnered with Smriti Mandhana at the top of the order, and together they built a formidable opening stand of 292 runs at MA Chidambaram Stadium before Mandhana was dismissed for 149 runs by Delmari Tucker. After Mandhana’s departure, Subha Satheesh added 15 runs before falling to Nadine de Klerk.
After reaching her first century in 113 deliveries, Shafali accelerated her innings with a series of stunning cricketing shots to swiftly reach the 200-run milestone.
