Led by captain Rohit Sharma, Team India received a warm welcome upon their return, beginning with a surprise reception at the airport and a subsequent meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. The festivities continued with a vibrant roadshow along Marine Drive in Mumbai, culminating in a grand felicitation ceremony at the iconic Wankhede Stadium on June 4th.
Around 300,000 fans gathered to celebrate their World Cup heroes during the team’s open-bus victory parade in Mumbai. The massive turnout at Marine Drive and later at Wankhede Stadium underscored how sports can unite people in a remarkable display of solidarity.
Amid Mumbai’s grand celebration of the T20 World Cup 2024 champions, Shah Rukh Khan expressed deep pride in witnessing the young Indian cricket team triumphantly bring home the prestigious trophy. Shah Rukh Khan wrote in his X post: “Seeing the boys so happy and emotional fills my heart with pride…. As Indians this is such an amazing moment – to see our boys take us to such great heights!!! Love u all my Team India… and now dance away all night long. Boys in Blue take away all the blues! Big Congratulations to the @BCCI, @JayShah and the entire support staff that has worked tirelessly behind the scenes so that our boys could soar!!”
Jasprit Bumrah said, “What I saw today, I have never seen anything like this before” after witnessing so much love from the huge crowd during India’s victory parade in Mumbai. On the other hand, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma said: “The huge turnout of fans to welcome us shows they were as desperate for this T20 World Cup title as we were.”
During the felicitation ceremony at Mumbai’s iconic Wankhede Stadium on Thursday, the BCCI awarded the INR 125 crore prize money to the victorious 2024 T20 World Cup-winning team.
