Pakistan’s cricket team is renowned for their resilience and comebacks on the field, a trait they have displayed numerous times in the past. However, like any group of competitive sportsmen, internal disagreements can occasionally surface.
Recently, a verbal altercation between Pakistan’s pacer Shaheen Afridi and batting coach Mohammad Yousuf during a practice session drew considerable attention on social media. Initially shrouded in speculation, details surrounding the incident have now been clarified by a source within the PCB.
Shaheen Afridi, a key figure in Pakistan’s bowling attack across all formats since 2018, has consistently troubled opposing batsmen with his left-arm pace. Meanwhile, Mohammad Yousuf, a revered figure from Pakistan’s cricketing golden era, serves as the team’s batting coach. His career, which spanned from the 90s into the 2000s, saw him play under the captaincy of Inzamam-ul-Haq and flourish as a batsman known by his early moniker, Yousuf Yohana.
The heated exchange between Shaheen Afridi and Mohammad Yousuf Revealed
According to a PCB source speaking to Geo News, tension arose between Mohammad Yousuf and Shaheen Afridi when Afridi was repeatedly bowling no balls in a practice session. Yousuf intervened to address the issue, prompting Afridi to react defensively, telling him to focus on his own responsibilities.
Yousuf countered that it was his duty to correct such mistakes, leading to a heated exchange that included strong language. The incident, described as a momentary outburst, was later resolved as both moved on without escalating the matter to the Pakistan Cricket Board.
“This was nothing more than a routine case of heat-of-the-moment, so the chapter was closed there and then,” the source was quoted by the Pakistani channel.
