During this season’s Indian Premier League, Shashank Singh had the privilege of conversing with the Indian cricket icon. Amidst a challenging campaign for Punjab Kings, where positives were scarce, Shashank emerged as a shining star with the bat.
He concluded the season as Punjab Kings’ top run-scorer, amassing 354 runs in 14 matches at an impressive strike rate of 164.65. His memorable innings included a pivotal role in Punjab Kings’ record-breaking chase of 262 against Kolkata Knight Riders, where he smashed an unbeaten 68 off just 28 deliveries.

In a recent interview, the rising star from Chhattisgarh disclosed that their discussion lasted a substantial 40 minutes. They delved into various aspects of the game, including batting techniques and the psychological aspects of cricket.
“He was standing, I was standing. We were standing for 40 minutes. I didn’t even know when 40 minutes passed,” Shashank Singh told InsideSport.
“Our team position was 12:45. It was 12:40, I didn’t know when 40 minutes passed. And we were talking about cricket, about technique, about shots, about mental chatter.
Describing their interaction further, Shashank Singh remarked on Kohli’s encouraging manner, emphasizing that Kohli made him feel like a fellow player from Chhattisgarh with his warm and supportive approach. He appreciated Kohli’s guidance on training methods and batting techniques, highlighting the former captain’s unwavering positivity throughout their conversation.
“He told me how to take a video, what to do next, how to work on things. He gave me a lot of confidence. Once I talk to him, I realize that he never says anything negative. He is always positive,” said Shashank Singh.
Similar to Shashank, Kohli had a stellar run in IPL 2024, ending as the tournament’s leading scorer with a remarkable 705 runs, which included a century and five half-centuries. Adding to his achievements, Kohli played a pivotal role in India’s recent T20 World Cup triumph, showcasing his batting prowess in the crucial final match.
