Shivam Dube emphasized the pivotal role of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in India’s international success, highlighting its profound impact on the growth of cricket in the country.
Recently, Dube was part of the victorious Indian squad at the 2024 T20 World Cup. While his individual contributions were modest throughout the tournament, he played a crucial cameo in the final against South Africa. Coming in at a precarious moment with India at 103-4 after losing Axar Patel, Dube’s brisk innings of 27 off just 16 deliveries provided vital momentum alongside Virat Kohli. His innings, which included 3 boundaries and a six, proved decisive as India clinched a thrilling victory by 7 runs.

In a candid interview with IANS, Shivam Dube underscored the significance of the IPL in his personal development and its broader impact on fostering cricket in India.
“The IPL is remarkable, both for players and for the growth of cricket in India. It provides a fantastic platform for young talent to showcase their skills alongside some of the best players in the world. Personally, playing in the IPL has been a significant learning experience, helping me improve my game and gain confidence,” Dube said in the interview.
The southpaw batsman also discussed the expansion of cricket in India facilitated by the IPL. He believes the prestigious tournament has attracted a fresh wave of enthusiasts and opened doors of opportunity for players, attributing its influence to India’s achievements on the global stage.
“Since the inception of the IPL, the growth of cricket in India has been phenomenal. It has brought in new fans, increased the popularity of the sport, and created numerous opportunities for players at all levels. The exposure and competitive environment of the IPL have elevated the standards of Indian cricket, contributing to the success we see on the international stage today,” Dube added.

Shivam Dube faced challenges during the T20 World Cup 2024, hosted in the West Indies and the USA, managing 133 runs across eight matches with an average of 22.16 and a strike rate of 114.65. Despite this, his contributions against teams like USA, Bangladesh, Australia, and South Africa were pivotal in securing victories for India.
Dube boasts an impressive track record in the IPL, where his performances played a crucial role in his selection for India’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad. In the IPL 2024 season, he amassed 396 runs at an average of 36 and a strike rate of 162.29.
His consistent performance extends to previous seasons as well, notably scoring 418 runs at an average of 38 and a strike rate of 158.33. Recognized for his prowess in the middle order for Chennai Super Kings, Dube is particularly adept at handling spin bowling, further solidifying his importance to the team.
