India’s versatile all-rounder, Shivam Dube, is currently enjoying a remarkable phase. He played a crucial role in India’s victorious T20 World Cup 2024 campaign, despite not being extensively utilized throughout the tournament. His significant contribution in the final was pivotal in securing India’s triumph.
In a recent video released by Star Sports, Shivam Dube shared insights into his cricketing journey, highlighting the profound influence of MS Dhoni on his development. Having been a part of the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL, Dube has had the privilege of playing under the leadership of MS Dhoni, an experience he holds in high regard.

In the video, Dube expressed his initial disappointment upon learning that he wouldn’t have the opportunity to play alongside MS Dhoni in the Indian national team. Starting his IPL journey with the Royal Challengers Bangalore, Dube eventually moved to the Chennai Super Kings.
His tenure with the Super Kings marked a turning point in his career, witnessing a significant enhancement in his performance, particularly as a crucial middle-order batsman. Dube candidly shared that during his early days, he found it challenging to communicate directly with Dhoni, highlighting his admiration and respect for the legendary cricketer.
“I always had a dream to play for India and play alongside MS Dhoni. When I made my India debut, Dhoni had already retired. I felt bad. Then I was not his team in the IPL as well. Finally, when I joined his team in IPL, it was a big occasion for me. I am his huge fan. Although I can talk to him a lot now but earlier, I used to be nervous while talking to him and could not speak to him,” Dube said in the video.
Dube emphasized the profound impact of receiving praise from MS Dhoni, underscoring how it can tremendously boost a player’s confidence. He elaborated on Dhoni’s mentorship and guidance, attributing it to significant improvements in his cricketing skills and overall performance.
“He is such a big player that if he praises any other player, it would be a big thing for him. If he says something positive about you, then your confidence goes into a different level. I think his role has been very important as he has helped me in a lot of things so that I can do better. I have received a lot of guidance from him which has improved my cricket a lot. I will always be his fan irrespective of how close we are. I like spending time with him,” Dube explains.
Shivam Dube’s impressive displays for CSK in the IPL paved the way for his national call-up. During IPL 2024, he showcased outstanding batting prowess, amassing 396 runs in 14 matches at an impressive average of 36 and a striking strike rate of 162.29.
