Shivam Dube, making his debut in an ICC tournament for India, had a tough start at the T20 World Cup 2024 held in the USA. Among his initial three Group A matches against Ireland, Pakistan, and America, Dube managed to find scoring opportunities primarily against the co-hosts but struggled otherwise. His performance has been disappointing overall.

Despite not being utilized as a bowler in the tournament, Shivam Dube has made limited contributions with the bat. For India to clinch their first T20 World Cup title since 2007, the southpaw needs to rediscover the form he exhibited during the last two Indian Premier League seasons with the Chennai Super Kings.

Dube gained recognition in the IPL for his exceptional ability to dominate spin bowlers, particularly noted during his stint with CSK. Given that India’s Super 8 matches will be played in spin-friendly conditions in the West Indies, it remains to be seen if he can replicate his prowess against spinners on this challenging stage.

Check out Sanjay Manjrekar’s vision about Shivam Dube?

During a recent interview with PTI, Sanjay Manjrekar shared his thoughts on Shivam Dube’s prospects in the upcoming World Cup. When asked about Dube’s ability to handle spinners on the international stage, Manjrekar expressed some uncertainty. He pointed out that Dube had primarily scored his runs against spinners in the IPL on flat pitches. According to Manjrekar, the conditions in the West Indies venues where the matches will be played present a starkly different challenge, suggesting Dube may not find as many opportunities to score runs there.

“We will have to wait and see. You are right because the hitting that you saw (during IPL) from Shivam Dube was on some of the flattest pitches in the world and also a long league, a lot doesn’t hinge on one game. So the pressures of World Cup are different,” Manjrekar told PTI.

“So we need to wait and see if Shivam Dube can replicate what he did in the IPL against the spinners because you are right which aren’t going to be as easy to hit the spinners as it was on Indian pitches and so we need to see if Dube can upgrade his power-hitting skills against spinners on these tracks,” Sanjay Manjrekar concluded.

Sanjay Manjrekar also voiced his curiosity about whether Shivam Dube can replicate his power-hitting ability against spinners on the international stage.

Shivam Dube showcased exceptional form with the bat during the initial stages of the Indian Premier League 2024, where he played aggressively and dominated opposing teams. His impressive displays prompted the BCCI selection committee to choose him for the 15-man squad, opting for him over Rinku Singh, who had also performed commendably in limited opportunities for the India National Cricket Team.

However, since his inclusion in the T20 World Cup squad, Shivam Dube has struggled to replicate his earlier form and has found it challenging to perform at his peak.
